Price and included services
Find out whether departing from Germany really costs less once everything is included.
Is flying from Düsseldorf or Cologne/Bonn cheaper than flying from the Netherlands?
Often, especially when Dutch and German school holidays do not overlap. German airports have a different selection of tour operators, airlines and departure days, so the same destination may cost less from Düsseldorf or Cologne/Bonn. Always compare the full trip cost, including parking, fuel or rail travel, luggage, seat selection and any airport hotel night.
Is a holiday from Germany always cheaper?
No. The difference depends on your dates, destination, airport, party and included services. Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn are particularly attractive for travellers in the Dutch border provinces because of the shorter journey. From elsewhere in the Netherlands, the saving generally needs to be larger to justify the extra distance.
Is the displayed price the complete price?
The displayed price is based on your selected trip, but additional costs vary by offer. These may include checked luggage, seat reservations, transfers, tourist tax and payment or booking fees. Always check the final price and included services with the booking provider before paying. Price and availability can change until the booking is confirmed.
Is checked luggage included in a package holiday?
Not automatically. It can vary by flight, fare and tour operator, even within the same hotel package. Check the final summary for the number of bags, weight per person and charges for infant or sports luggage. The operating airline’s rules apply.
Is the transfer between airport and hotel included?
Only when it is explicitly listed among the travel services. Look for terms such as ‘Transfer inklusive’ or ‘Privattransfer’. If it says ‘ohne Transfer’, or no transfer is mentioned, check with the provider. Arranging your own journey to the hotel can consume a substantial part of the saving.
Which total price should I compare?
Compare the flight, hotel, room type, board, luggage, transfer, seat selection, booking fees and flexible or cancellation terms. Then add the journey to the airport, parking and any airport hotel night. What remains compared with a Dutch departure is your real saving.
Is departing from Germany worthwhile for families?
For families, a saving per person can add up quickly. At the same time, checked luggage, seat reservations, parking and transfers can increase the total. Compare one final amount for the whole family and consider flight times, the journey to the airport and what is included for children.
Booking in Germany
About Dutch customer details, payment and the language of your booking.
Can I book a German package holiday from abroad?
In many cases, yes. Before paying, check whether the tour operator accepts bookings from residents of the Netherlands. Enter your name exactly as shown in your travel document and make sure your Dutch address and phone number are accepted. The terms, confirmation and customer service may be in German.
Do I need a German address or bank account?
Usually not, although a provider may set its own booking and payment conditions. Never enter a fictitious German address. If your Dutch details are not accepted, contact the provider or choose another holiday.
Can I pay with iDEAL on a German travel website?
Not every German provider supports iDEAL. You may be able to pay by credit card, PayPal, SEPA transfer or direct debit. For a bank transfer, carefully check the recipient, account number and booking reference, and use only a payment method offered at checkout.
Who do I ultimately book my holiday with?
ReisGoud helps you find and compare holidays from Dutch and German airports. You complete the booking with the travel provider named in the offer and booking process. That provider determines the price, availability, payment terms and fulfilment. Always check the organiser’s name and contact details before paying.
Will I receive my travel documents in Dutch?
A German tour operator may provide the booking confirmation, travel documents and terms in German. English may be available, but Dutch is not guaranteed. Check names, dates of birth, travel dates, airport, luggage and hotel as soon as you receive them and report errors immediately to the booking provider.
Will Dutch-speaking assistance be available at my destination?
Not always. With a German tour operator, local assistance is usually in German or English. Information meetings and excursions may also be offered only in German. If Dutch-language support matters to you, check this before booking.
Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn
Practical questions about the correct airport and getting there.
Is Düsseldorf Airport the same as Airport Weeze?
No. Düsseldorf Airport uses code DUS. Airport Weeze uses code NRN and is around 75 kilometres from Düsseldorf. Always check the code on your confirmation and in your navigation. Searching only for ‘Düsseldorf Airport’ is not enough if you are actually departing from Weeze.
Am I flying from Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn or Weeze?
The airport code is decisive: DUS is Düsseldorf Airport, CGN is Cologne Bonn Airport and NRN is Airport Weeze. Check the code before reserving parking, buying rail tickets or setting your navigation. With an early flight, a mistake could mean missing your departure.
How do I get from the Netherlands to Düsseldorf Airport?
Düsseldorf Airport is accessible by car and train. Düsseldorf Flughafen station is connected to the terminals by SkyTrain; the S11 serves Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal station. Allow sufficient time for engineering work, delays and missed connections. For a very early flight, an airport hotel may be more practical.
Where can I park at Düsseldorf Airport or Cologne/Bonn?
Both airports have official car parks in several price ranges. Booking ahead is often cheaper and prevents your preferred car park from being full. For external shuttle or valet services, compare the total price, reviews, insurance, transfer time, key handover and any overnight surcharges.
How early should I arrive at the airport?
Always follow the advice of your airline or tour operator. At least two hours is often recommended for European flights and three hours for intercontinental flights. Allow more time during school holidays, public holidays and busy weekends, and check when check-in and bag drop open.
Rights, documents and assistance
What cross-border travellers should know about protection and travel documents.
Do I have EU protection when booking with a German operator?
A genuine package holiday in the EU is covered by rules on pre-contract information, organiser responsibility and insolvency protection. Separately booked flights and accommodation do not automatically offer the same package rights. Before paying, check who the organiser is and which protection applies.
Is a German package automatically covered by ANVR or SGR?
No. Dutch quality marks and guarantee schemes apply only when the provider is affiliated with them. For a German package, check the organiser and the applicable insolvency protection. A website logo is not a substitute for verifiable information supplied with your booking.
What is a Sicherungsschein?
A Sicherungsschein is German evidence of insolvency protection for a package holiday. It normally identifies the party providing protection if the tour operator can no longer meet its financial obligations. Keep it with your confirmation, invoice and proof of payment.
Do different passport or visa rules apply because I depart from Germany?
Entry requirements are mainly determined by your destination and nationality, not by departing from Germany. A Dutch identity card is not sufficient for every destination. Check the official document and visa requirements before travelling; the name on the ticket must match your travel document.
What should I do if my flight is changed or cancelled?
Check who your contracting party is and which airline operates the flight. Keep all emails, messages, payment records and the original booking. For a package, the organiser is the central contact; the operating airline may also be responsible for specific flight issues. ReisGoud cannot change or cancel your booking.
Who should I call if something goes wrong during the trip?
Report the problem immediately to the tour operator or named representative and give them a reasonable opportunity to resolve it. Keep messages, photos and receipts. ReisGoud helps with research but is not a party to your travel contract.
Can I skip a flight segment and get off at Schiphol instead?
This is risky. If you do not use one part of the booked itinerary, the airline may cancel the remaining segments. Checked luggage is normally sent to the destination shown on the ticket. Book only an itinerary you intend to complete and ask the airline about its conditions in advance.
